In trimester 2 reading class, we will continue to read some excellent short stories. You will participate in a book club focusing on the Holocaust and learn various word stems. You will be expected to read 3 novels on your own as well. In writing, we will learn MELCon and write an argument essay. Don't forget to practice your grammar skills on No Red Ink!
Trimester 2 is off to a great start. Keep working hard!
Remember, you have lots of support if you need it. You can see me after school a couple of days a week and email me any time. The more you communicate about what you need, the more successful you will be.
For reading/writing, this trimester we will be starting with Workshop 6 of our Read180 program. We'll focus on literary analysis, using Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher" and the novel, "The Graveyard Book" by Neil Gaiman. Then we'll jump back into nonfiction with a workshop on invasive species and focus on writing problem-solution essays. So fun!
Explorer Math students have been doing wonderful work. We are finishing up our work with Percents and will be starting to work with simplifying algebraic expressions and solving equations. Students need to be showing their work in the math notebook. Many students need to replensh their supply of pencils and bring one to class each day. Reminder: You need a hand-held scientific calculator (like a TI-30x). 7Accel
The Accelerated math classes are finishing up the Percent Topic and will move into solving equations as trimester 2 continues. Reminder: You will need a hand-held scientific calculator (like a TI-30x) as well as plenty of pencils, your math spiral and folder.
Trimester two has been fantastic so far! The students amaze me every day as they grow, evolve and develop as individuals and as thinkers.
In Reading and Writing class, students have started a unit on figurative language and poetry as well as a unit on MELCon writing which introduces strong paragraph structure. We will be moving into a Holocaust unit as well as a unit on argumentative research writing. Students will continue to learn and master stem words and their meanings and usage.
Students in Intervention class continue to progress in reading and math skills as they work at their own unique learning levels and build individual skills.
I look forward to working with Explorers as we work our way through 7th grade!
In trimester 2 we will work on developing our argumentative writing skills. Students will also engage in a Socratic Seminar about the benefits of a "digital detox". In reading, students will participate in book clubs centered around the Holocaust, and will continue to learn and apply Greek and Latin stem words!
