This year in social studies the students will be studying World Geography. This course will expose students to the movement, cultures, physical characteristics, locations and human interactions of different areas of the world. I hope this class will help the students understand the issues we are facing in the world today. By understanding the source of these problems, the students will be able to create solutions.
Periodically, I will be sending out email updates on what we are doing in class. If you do not receive and update in your inbox in the next few weeks, please contact me directly at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
I'm looking forward to another great year with your students.
Speech presentations began this week and I have enjoyed hearing students reflect on their experiences at Springman! Please check in with your child and listen to their speech if you haven’t already! With so many strong speeches, narrowing the pool for graduation night presentation will be difficult. I have opened a discussion on Schoology where students can nominate their peers. Speeches will continue into next week, so be sure your child continues to practice. When we complete this unit I hope to squeeze in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. With modified schedules and field trips, I have not set a date for our next vocabulary assessment, but please be sure you are reviewing list #9 as well as Lists 1-8 for the cumulative test. Have a great weekend!
We will start the 8th grade year of Reading by reading Ch. 8 of Outliers and then read "Flowers for Algernon". The work will be done in class. If anyone needs additional time there will be a pdf of the texts posted on my Schoology page.
