This year in social studies the students will be studying World Geography. This course will expose students to the movement, cultures, physical characteristics, locations and human interactions of different areas of the world. I hope this class will help the students understand the issues we are facing in the world today. By understanding the source of these problems, the students will be able to create solutions.
Periodically, I will be sending out email updates on what we are doing in class. If you do not receive and update in your inbox in the next few weeks, please contact me directly at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
I'm looking forward to another great year with your students.
Students used most of the their time during the short week to complete their essays. I asked students to choose their best work (of the two essays we’ve been working on in class) and submit one, either “The Veldt’ or “Harrison Bergeron”, for a summative grade.
Some blocks started additional background information for the Israeli/Palestinian conflict essay. Students will write an argumentative essay in class next week related to the conflict. Please reference the folder on Schoology for supplemental readings. This is the first grade of Trimester 3 and will count in Mr. Kudia and Mrs. Hoffman’s Social Studies classes as well.
There is also a vocabulary test on list #6 next week (Block 1,Tuesday all other blocks on Wednesday), so be sure to study as necessary.
I look forward to meeting with you all next week at conferences!
Have a great weekend!
We will start the 8th grade year of Reading by reading Ch. 8 of Outliers and then read "Flowers for Algernon". The work will be done in class. If anyone needs additional time there will be a pdf of the texts posted on my Schoology page.
