Ms. Emma Russell's Classroom News

08/26/2018 | Welcome back Infinity!
Welcome back!! I am looking forward to continuing awesome work throughout the 2018-2019 school year! This year we will continue classroom experiences focused on critical thinking, inquiry, and problem solving. Students will all encounter real-world problems in the classroom, and through solving these problems, they will develop inquiry and critical-thinking skills. As problem solvers and critical thinkers, my goal is for all to be empowered as decision-makers and productive members of society. The units we will cover are Water Cycle, Space Systems, Forces & Interactions, Biological Change Over Time, and Human Impact. As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns.

Hello Everyone!

We have been off to an amazing start in Science class and believe it or not, our first unit assessment is just around the corner! We will be finishing up our last topics on Bio-Flow by Monday of next week. I will be dedicating two classes to review the material we have covered so far this year. The students should be expecting their assessment by the third rotation of next week (Thursday/Friday).

On top of in class review, I will be opening my classroom before school on Wednesday and Thursday morning (anytime after 7:15 am) for any students who would like to come in for a study group or extra help.

In the meantime, if there are any questions/concerns please don't hesitate to contact me! smiley

The infinity scientists are off to a great start! Last week we completed our first lab, the Egg Drop Lab. Within this lab the students worked in groups to build a contraption that would protect an egg when dropped from 2 meters in height and was rolled 2 meters in length. This lab introduced students to the Engineering Design Cycle and allowed them to use the Science & Engineering Practices. Many groups succeeded in protecting the egg!

This week we started our first official unit, Bio-Flow! So far, the students have learned that some chemical reactions release energy (exothermic reactions), while other chemical reactions absorb energy (endothermic reactions).
